About Guru Nanak:
Guru Nanak is the founder and the first of the ten Gurus (Prophet-Masters) of Sikhism. The spiritual revelations of Guru Nanak (along with those of the subsequent Sikh Gurus and other contemporary Hindu and Muslim Saints), form the verses of the eternal and everlasting Sikh Guru, the Guru Granth Sahib, a holy scripture composed and compiled by the Sikh Gurus themselves. Sikh theology considers the Guru Granth Sahib to be the direct words of God: indeed, in many of the verses, Guru Nanak states likewise (e.g., As comes the Divine Word from Lord to me, O Lalo, So do I narrate it, Guru Granth Sahib, p-722). The revelations of Guru Nanak are registered in the form of 974 poetic hymns in the Guru Granth Sahib, with some of the major prayers being the Japji Sahib, the Asa di Var and the Sidh-Ghost.
